3 Key Strategies To Unlock Music Sucess
/Every year parents like you and me launch into the school year with the best of intentions. We all know the feeling of being overwhelmed this time of year, but here are three things to do now to succeed in music learning.
1. Set Goals
If your kids are learning to read, the goal is usually apparent: read at grade level. However, music learning, doesn’t have a grade level. Often we ask our kids to learn an instrument with no clear goal in mind. Back-to-school time is the best time to ask your kids, "What do you want to learn on your instrument?" Answers usually range from genres to specific songs. When you and your child know your desired outcome, share them with your instructor. Instructors will then help you create a plan to get from point A to point B.
2. Choose Repertoire
Be prepared and know what your child will be playing now and what they will be exploring next. Method books are extremely helpful for young students and those new to an instrument. Method books will guide you through all the ins and outs of playing with enjoyable and educational songs. For older and advanced students, repertoire is usually pieced together in ways that allow for personal taste in songs, technical guidance so students are advancing in skill, and exposure to new types of music with which students may be unfamiliar.
3. Make And Stick To A Schedule
Schedules are so important to music learning! M3 Creative Academy recommends that every student have a set time each practice day. As parents, we must then encourage the keeping of this appointment. Music-making becomes a habit when a schedule is made and kept, and students enjoy their instrument more and more.
I encourage you to use these three simple strategies this week. The results will be a great return on your time invested and happy kids enjoying music.
